Attended a workshop on Positive Psychology in Education yesterday, but learnt more about positive psychology in my personal life instead. (I suppose that’s where we all start from anyway.) Hearing about ‘flow’ (Csikszewntmikalyi) was like hearing a description of what happens when I train. It also elucidated why I actually enjoyed my thesis writing process!
Two quotes stuck out for me during the course. One of them is the quote in the title by Christopher Reeve. The other is by Orison Swett Marden:
“Success is not measured by what you have accomplished. But by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.”
This is exactly what I was telling my students just 20 minutes before the workshop. What you are and who you are aren’t determined by the challenges you face, but by how you faced them.
